Fun with the Barrels
A workshop with Niedra Gabriel
Do you want to breathe new life into your Pilates practice?
When you have the optimal blueprint, your body feels like it is light and floating. Movement is easy and open.
Unfortunately, most people’s bodies are contracted, often shaped in a “defensive” manner. Through Pilates, we can help ourselves and our students open their bodies and their lives with more expansive movements, and step out of limitations that can affect every aspect of our lives.
The Barrels can help you do this effortlessly!
The Benefits of Adding Barrels to Your PIlates Practice
- Create balance – if your life and your Pilates practice emphasize contractive movements, you can create balance by adding opening or expanding movements to your practice. This has benefits by opening your mind and your life!
- Moves your Pilates practice to a new level – moves you beyond plateaus in your body and practice.
- Gives you a new and fun way to teach Pilates to your students
- Allows you to get a higher level of results from your Pilates practice – by focusing on moving beyond restricted ROM in the shoulders, back and hips.
- Allows you to move towards the optimal blueprint for your body – where you feel the right mix of lightness and support so that movement is effortless.
You Will Learn How To:
- Isolate tight areas of the body in order to get them to open and release
- Move beyond plateaus in your body and your practice
- Make your barrels practice FUN!
- Move yourself and your students beyond current body limitations
- Shed new life on the mat exercise by moving them to the Barrels.
- Move beyond where you are with your core strength and range of movement
- Get the sacrum stretch that everyone is looking for!
- Understand why different surfaces affect the results of your practice.
- Learn to apply what you've learned to different body types
- Apply what you've learned to issues your or your students may experience (e.g., tight hips, tight shoulders, scoliosis, alignment issues, etc.)
We will be working on all 3 barrels: small, spine corrector and ladder barrels.
There will be plenty of small group work so that you learn the specifics of each pose, how to do them yourself, how to teach, how to adjust and spot students in their Barrel practice. You will learn how the barrels work on your own body and that of your students.
